My Weapon is a Melody
The Lord has been revealing the power there is in a song. There is so much power in the words we speak and
the things we declare with our mouths. The things we say can either bring life
or death. Words are never empty. I have found they often cause very tangible
things to happen in both the physical and spiritual realm.
“A gentle
tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4)
I have loved listening to the song Raise A Hallelujah by Bethel because each line declares the power of what it looks like to sing and praise
amidst the most difficult trials in life. I will praise in the presence of
my enemies. I will praise louder than my unbelief. I will praise in
the middle of the storm. I will praise, I will worship because He is
worthy. He is worthy of the song I sing and the breath in my lungs.
I have been finding so much freedom and joy in singing
simple songs to the Lord. I may be walking around the kitchen singing the
precious name of Jesus over and over. I may be singing a prayer to the Lord when
I really need His help with something. I may be squealing Hallelujahs after I get
to do something I love or am just delighting in how good God really is. I may be belting out my new favorite worship song at the top of my lungs. Worship has taken different forms, but I have found these simple prayers and
praises that are sung out loud are having a true and profound effect in my life
and in my spirit. I have experienced the fruit of it. After I have spent time
singing to the Lord, I can feel my unbelief in a hopeless situation start to
fade. I can feel the irritation or frustration start to diminish in my heart as I
sing my heart out to Him. I can feel faith start to arise, joy start to bloom,
and my spirit begin to awaken to what He is doing in my life.
“Every time I worship, I am deeply impacted. The Holy Spirit
empowers me to see Jesus as He truly is, and when I see Him, I am changed. As I
worship Jesus, He empowers me to grow, to love others well, and to minister in
His power.” {Global Awakening}
When we sing to
Him, about Him, or with Him, we are joined with Him in a deep
way. And when we are joined with Him, “the poverty of our personal identity is lost in the
fullness of His greatness” ( Secrets of the Secret Place).
When we sing, we get
to declare “yes and amen” to the promises He has declared over our lives. When
we sing, we get to loosen the grips of the enemy and dance upon the disappointments
we have walked through. Our song is a spiritual WEAPON!!! It is a weapon that
helps us fight against the power of darkness and invites the power of light in
our lives.
You may at times feel like you don’t know what to sing. You may
feel like you don’t have a song in your heart or a tune in your mind to sing.
This is actually the best place to be because it opens up the opportunity for
you to sing in the spirit. You can allow yourself to bypass your mind and open
up your spirit to what it needs to sing. Your spirit knows more of what you need
than your mind does. When you allow the Holy Spirit to invade your spirit, He
is able to minister to you in ways you did not consciously know you needed. You
are able to allow your spirit to realign with God’s spirit through song. I
think this is what Ephesians 5:19-20 is talking about when it says, “Instead be
filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make
music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for
everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Don’t be afraid to sing your way back to His arms.
The melody that comes from YOUR heart is unlike anyone
else, and the Lord wants to hear the song you can sing. It’s about giving God
the honor He deserves and using the weapon He has given you to put the enemy in
his place. As I was writing this post, I felt the Lord wanted me to speak to
someone specific. I felt He was saying there was someone who really needs to
know their voice has power. I also felt like the power in this person’s life
was going to be released when they let go of pride or insecurity about their
voice and sing their heart out. We can sing in different volumes
depending on the circumstance, but for this person I really felt like there is
going to be a new level of power released when you open up your mouth and sing
LOUDER than you ever have before. There is going to be freedom released not
only over your life as you sing, but over the lives of the people around you too. So I pray for whoever this word is for and I pray they would know the Lord is speaking to them. I pray they that they would have the courage to SING LOUDER. Louder than they ever have before because
you can be undignified before the Lord. No joke. This could change your life so
just try it.
{Even Louder
by The Church Will Sing}
When I lift
my voice
Heaven comes
to earth
When I sing
this song
I feel you
respond
…
Even when my
eyes can’t see
I will sing
till I believe it
Even louder,
even louder
Sing until you believe it.
I want to challenge each of you to SING MORE. A melody is a
weapon we can use to bring the Kingdom of God to this earth. David, a man after
God’s own heart, was a worshipper. He sang his heart songs to God all the time
and the Lord was so pleased with him. If you need more proof that our melody is
a weapon, read 1 Samuel 16:14-23. It tells the story of Saul and how there was
an evil spirit that continually tormented him, but when David would sing and
play his instruments, the evil spirit would leave.
“Whenever God’s spirit came to
Saul, David took the lyre and strummed a tune. Saul got
relief from his terror
and felt better, and the evil spirit left him.”
Like woahhh. The music we make has the ability to drive evil
spirits out of us, our homes, and our work places. Think about it. It is very
hard to be worried when you are singing about the goodness of God. It is very
hard to think about the shame you feel when you are praising the King for who
He is. It is very hard to be tempted by the sin you keep falling into when you are
singing in the power of the Holy Spirit. So sing, sing, sing. If you need
relief, faith, joy, or freedom, you know the weapon you need to pull out of
your back pocket. Your weapon is a melody. He is going to do immeasurably more than
you could ask or imagine with the song your heart sings to Him.
